Design Museum: Azzedine Alaïa - The Couturier
Working with designers All Things Studio on a design developed in collaboration with external curators from original discussions with the fashion figure himself, Factory Settings produced and installed the visually striking Azzedine Alaïa: The Couturier at the Design Museum in early 2018. A combination of materials and processes in mirrored acrylic and composite panels achieved an expansive and consistent mirrored effect on a number of mannequin bases and variously sized plinths in the museum’s ground floor gallery.
Factory Settings advised on the physical constraints and properties of various materials under consideration, performing material tests and evaluations as part of the design development strategy, until the build design was refined and finalised. The exhibition exemplified Factory Settings’ capacity and enthusiasm for research and experimentation to meet the challenges of ambitious briefs and design ideas.
