Gitta Gschwendtner: Furniture for 'Please Sit'

It is always a real pleasure to be asked to work repeatedly with a designer you admire.

After our successful collaboration on Science City 1550-1800 at the Science Museum, designer Gitta Gschwendtner asked us to produce three metal chairs and one bench as part of a site specific furniture installation, entitled ‘Please Sit’ at the National Trust’s Fenton House.

After fully prototyping, the star piece was an imposing 2m-tall ladder-back steel chair finished in gold leaf displayed in the Rockingham Room. A further two chairs and a bench were installed in the grounds. In order to protect them from the elements, we ground the steel back, finishing them out in a black iron paste and sealing them with a clear matt lacquer.

The project has been longlisted in the installation design category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
